Citizen's Committee to Protect the Elderly
The Citizens’ Committee to Protect the Elderly (CCPE) is a private, non-profit organization funded by grants, community donations, and groups who have a special sensitivity to the elderly. Organized services and activities are implemented through the dedicated efforts of hundreds of community volunteers throughout a seven-city area: Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News and Hampton.
Organization’s Stated Mission:
We provide guidance, support and protection to the elderly and to those entrusted with the care of the elderly.
Service Opportunities Within the Organization:
The Humanitarian Visitor Program
Regular visits have proved to reduce the stress, loneliness and isolation experienced by many elderly people living in long-term care settings. Our volunteers visit the elderly weekly to provide companionship. Visits are made to residents who do not have regular visitors, in both nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Become a volunteer visitor.
Volunteer Nurses
The Citizens’ Committee is seeking volunteers who have nursing backgrounds and credentials. Professionals who are willing to donate their experience and skills, giving advice and guidance to family members and guardians entrusted with the care of the elderly, will be of great benefit to our community. Minimal hours sufficient.
