Meals for Members
First Meals for Members Go Out
by: Benjiman Kirven
There are many different ways to communicate that you care: flowers, a card, or words of encouragement. What about a casserole? A few weeks ago we began distributing frozen meals to members that have experienced financial hardship, loss, illness, or were just in need of something that said, “We want you to know that you are loved, appreciated, and a valuable part of the Bayside family.”
As one of our “Doing Good In The Neighborhood” projects, we asked the congregation in the month of June to contribute casserole ingredients that would be prepared, frozen, and delivered to members. This first go round contributions were modest, but purchases were made to fill the gap and twenty three dishes were prepared. Those meals were gifted to nineteen families.
One sister, with multiple children in the home, was very excited and appreciative. She yelled to the back of the house to another family member, “Ben is here and he’s got food. We’re going to eat good tomorrow!” I explained, “This is from your church family. We want you to know we love you.”
Another sister wrote this e-mail after receiving her gift.
“I have been sick off and on for more than a year now. When Benjiman called to say he was bringing something over to the house I thought it was updated church information or something. I never imagined it would be food for my family. What a surprise and at the right time. God always provides.
I thank you all from the bottom of my heart… My family and I have a couple of meals that are already made for the days I can’t manage.”
Two more collections are coming up: September and December. Give generously, knowing that your church family deeply appreciates both the food and the message of love it sends.
